I think that Gantt charts tend to help to distribute tasks and set deadlines and thus motivate oneself to start things and see the bigger picture in one document.
At the same time, I see that many tasks within research processes cannot be planned, because sometimes many things need to be done at the same time and the success of things often depends on others, which also leads to delays. Therefore, in my eyes, it is very difficult to stick exactly to the original chart - but as a rough plan it makes sense!
In my opinion, Gantt charts are really useful for everybody not just researchers, with this chart you can actually see your progress and your timeline. However, if you are a lazy person, it can have negative impacts on your project. For example, if you do not follow your Gantt chart and calendarization, it would give you anxiety and stress.
